Equality & Diversity Panel
The work of this Panel is about how fairly Aragon provides for all sections of the local communities in which it operates. The Panel is interested in issues such as involving younger people in Aragon, transport issues for older people in rural areas and ensuring Aragon meets the needs of disabled customers.
Progress Report January 2007
The Equality and Diversity Panel has had a busy 2006. Having had a visit from a Bedfordshire Rural Charity Commission representative in 2005 to discuss transport in rural locations, a booklet was published and distributed to Panel Members. The Panel has had discussions about involving younger people in what Aragon does, and we now have younger people involved, through the AIR Panel (see page 1), so we are already seeing success.
The Equality and Diversity Panel has been involved in a piece of consultation which Bedfordshire Police are undertaking. This piece of work is on the forces Disability Scheme, and the Panel has had a visit from the project manager on several occasions to update them on how the project is progressing.
In 2007, the Equality and Diversity Panel will be looking to improve links with other communities, including inviting a member of the Bedford Council of Faiths to visit to raise awareness of different faiths, visiting a Disability Resource Centre and working further with the AIR Panel.
