Aragon Housing Association is a leading provider of new affordable housing in Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. Working in partnership with south-east based Genesis Housing Group, Aragon is able to access significant levels of grant from the Housing Corporation enabling the association to continue to build much needed affordable housing.
Aragon currently has numerous sites in construction and a significant number of additional schemes are being negotiated with developers, local authorities and landowners. We will be completing approximately 100 homes in 2006/07 and we are anticipating more than 250 completions in 2007/08.
Quality
In order to secure Housing Corporation grant Aragon has to ensure that the properties being constructed are reaching and surpassing the Housing Corporation’s ‘scheme development standards’. By renewing and strengthening the relationships we have with our developer and contractor partners, Aragon can ensure that our properties are constructed to the highest standards. In order to achieve the EcoHomes rating of ‘Very Good’ on all new properties Aragon, whenever possible, utilises modern methods of construction to ensure that our properties are sustainable on both a community and environmental level.
Housing types
Aragon Housing Association builds a variety of housing types and tenures from general needs rented, near market rent and shared ownership properties, to retirement housing schemes and supported living accommodation for Aragon’s subsidiary, Macintyre Housing Association. Aragon’s Development Team
The Development Team, currently has nine members of staff, who project manage schemes from initial negotiations with landowners and the local authorities to the handover of the completed units to new residents. The team is always looking to reduce costs and speed up the build process, and working with our consultants we have established some very successful partnership arrangements to enable such goals to be realised.
Key to all development work undertaken by Aragon is the understanding of how decisions taken by staff and external agencies can influence and affect our customers. To ensure that housing associations are improving and implementing best practices the Housing Corporation continually assess developing associations via the Construction Clients Charter to which Aragon is a fully accredited member.
