Should you downsize?

Posted by Aileen Evans
Ever since the Government published its Welfare Reform Act, many housing associations have been worried about what this means for their tenants.

Here at Aragon Housing Association, we are no different. We are trying to offer our tenants a number of different options which could help them. Firstly, we offer a downsizing allowance. This is a one off payment that is given to any of our tenants who are willing to move from a larger property to a smaller one. Maybe you live in a three bedroom house and your children have now all moved out. If you downsized to a one bedroom bungalow or flat, you would be entitled to £2000. This downsizing allowance offers up to £1000 per bedroom given up when moving from a house or disabled bungalow, £500 per bedroom in a ground floor flat or £250 per bedroom in an upper floor flat. If you are retired and find that your home is too big for you, a move to one of our retirement schemes could be an option. At Aragon, retirement housing is all about choice. You can choose where you’d like to live and what type of property you want, from bungalows to flats in a retirement scheme. All properties have their own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, lounge and front door. We can even offer you our Community Alarm and Support Service. This alarm service is available from as little as £4.55 a month and gives piece of mind while providing maximum flexibility to those choosing smaller accommodation away from the standard environment of a retirement scheme.

Whatever you decide, everyone at Aragon is here to guide you and help you make your choice.
