It is true that by working together a team can often achieve more than an individual and at Aragon Housing Association we believe that partnerships are paramount.
In trying to provide good homes and sustainable communities for our 6,500 customers we work jointly with a wide variety of organisations. These partnerships involve us in a range of projects from supporting vulnerable adults to building greener homes for the future.
Some of our key partners are local authorities including Bedford Borough Council with whom we work on our Telecare service to help the elderly.
We also work with Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) to find the right homes for the people who need them and to fund and fit a range of improvements for people’s homes.
Alongside our sister organisation MacIntyre Housing Association we are also working with CBC to provide accommodation for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities and
Under a major programme known as the Campus Closure programme we are soon opening a brand new scheme in Biggleswade. People who used to live in outdated mental health hospitals or care homes are now being rehoused in their own homes, with their own front door for the first time in their lives.
It’s not only about joint working, it’s about good liaison too. We have been involved in some innovative partnerships including one with both Bromford Support and the Probation Service in which offenders doing community service orders are able to help tenants who may need extra help in their homes and local area.
And great partnerships can produce great results. Look at our award-winning bungalow in Wrestlingworth which, thanks to a partnership between local builders SDC, Bedford College, Cambridge and Loughborough Universities and Aragon, has been fitted with the latest green technology to bring energy bills down. The data gathered from that project will help shape Government domestic green policy.
And of course there’s no better example of partnership working than in building new homes. We are delighted the Homes and Communities Agency has recognised us through our parent company Grand Union Housing Group, as partner with whom it hopes to fund and build much needed new homes for this area over the next few years.
