We are all aware that this country is going through a housing shortage that shows little sign of fading. In 2011, 390,000 new families were formed, but only 111,250 new homes were built.
At Aragon, we are backing the National Housing Federation’s Yes to Homes campaign. This aims to get people to say yes to build more homes so we can try to solve the housing shortage in this country.
Rural housing can sometimes be a hot topic, with some local people being concerned about building any new homes in villages.
We all know how important it is to build new houses in areas where people have grown up so they can stay close to their friends and families.
In cases like our development at Marshalls Avenue in Shillington, which will see 11 homes completed in late March, we are providing affordable housing for local people with a connection to the area.
Rural exception sites such as these help to keep these communities alive.
Aragon also redevelops on sites where existing properties no longer meet the needs and expectations of our customers.
Our Fairholme development in Biggleswade is on one of these sites and will provide 19 new affordable homes in one of Aragon’s highest housing demand areas.
As well as providing some of these homes at only 80% of the market rent, the site also includes four shared ownership properties.
Shared ownership homes are a fantastic way for first time buyers or those who cannot secure a large deposit to get on to the property ladder and they are fast becoming a more popular option.
Shared ownership is when you buy a percentage of a home and pay rent on the rest. You can then ‘staircase’ how much you own and buy more of your home when you want.
