It’s a Tintastic day
Staff and customers at Ampthill based Aragon Housing Association have collected a mountain of food to donate to people in their local area who are struggling to make ends meet.
In the first of what will be monthly Tintastic Day they appealed to staff at Aragon, part of Grand Union Housing Group, and its sister company Macintyre Housing Association to donate food and dry goods to be turned into food parcels for those who are finding it hard in the current economic climate.
Organiser Michele Collins, of Aragon’s Money Advice Service said: “At Aragon we are very conscious of how many of our customers find things hard in the current climate. We have a very active money advice service and work hard to raise awareness among our own staff of how money worries can make life hard.
“Every month we want to have a collection of useful items of food or dry goods which we will hand over to the church for distribution across our area.
“We all know these are hard times but for many people things are really hard. Our local community is working hard to try and help out where it’s needed and we want to do something to support that effort.”
Items donated include tins of food, toiletries, tea, coffee, packets of cereals and even pet food.
Aragon also asked customers visiting the recent Aragon open day to donate. One Aragon tenant……… said: “I was really hard up once and remember benefiting from a similar scheme and it really helped me. I wanted to be able to return the favour.”
As part of the communitywide initiative the items donated by staff and customers have been handed over to the vicar of Kings Baptist Church, Stotfold, for distribution in our area.
Rev Philip Amos, of Kings Baptist Church, said: “We are really grateful to Aragon. We have been encouraging everyone at church to get involved saying that when they buy the buy one, get one free offers, we will have the free one for our food parcels.”
Aragon will be staging a monthly tintastic day with collection points in their office receptions in both Ampthill and Sandy. If anyone would like to make any donations or are interested in Aragon’s Money Advice Service please contact us on 01767 685800.
