Background

Aragon Housing Association was formed in 1994, following the transfer of homes from Central Bedfordshire Council. In November 1999, the association formally changed its name from Mid Beds Housing Association to Aragon Housing Association after a wide consultation with both tenants and staff.

With 6,500 homes, assets of £170 million and an annual turnover of £27million, Aragon is one of the fastest growing ‘not-for-profit’ landlords in southern England. It manages over 6,500 homes across Bedfordshire and is now also working in Milton Keynes, Northampton, Luton, Aylesbury and Cambridgeshire.

Aragon:
  • is among the top 25% performing associations in the UK
  • is the highest ranking association in a government survey of large scale voluntary transfer associations
  • has an impressive track record in development which has received recognition from the Housing Corporation.

In March 2008 Aragon became part of Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG), which also comprises two other subsidiaries: MacIntyre Housing Association and South Northants Homes.
Core services such as repairs, major improvements and housing management are provided by Aragon to their tenants, with support services, including finance and IT, provided by GUHG to each of the subsidiaries

Why 'Aragon'?

The name derives from Katherine of Aragon, first wife of Henry VIII, who lived at Ampthill Castle during 1533 at the time of their divorce.
