Staff from Flowers House, a specialist scheme developed by local housing provider Aragon Housing for adults with dementia, are making the communal garden there a more peaceful and friendly environment for the residents.
Rowena Allsopp, Activities Coordinator, said: “We are planting a new fruit tree in the garden as residents often find tending plants therapeutic. Any produce grown, such as tomatoes, beans and strawberries, we use in our cooking sessions and seeds and seedlings are potted up to sell to raise funds for resident activities.”
Jan Davis, Retirement Homes Team Leader for Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG), Aragon’s parent organisation, said: “The focus at Flowers House is on independent living and activities residents can build on. We want to make the garden a haven for the residents to work in or look at.”
