We replace windows and doors at our properties to help keep them up to modern standards and also improve the energy efficiency and security of your property. Maintaining our properties in good order is one of our long term objectives and is a key part of the Association’s ongoing 30 year major works improvement plan.
Initial contact for my windows and doors replacements
Once you have received a letter informing you that your windows and doors will be replaced, the next step is for a member of our Project Team to visit your property (or a property in the road identical to yours) where an initial measured survey will be carried out. The contractor will then be instructed and will arrange to visit your property to take measurements for manufacturing purposes. A convenient start date will then be agreed between you and the contractor. All our contractors’ operatives will have photographic identification with them at all times.
There may be occasions where we are required to change the design of the windows to improve them aesthetically, improve performance or comply with current planning or building regulations.
Our installing contractor is Solar Windows from Caerphilly.
What will I get?
- New white reinforced PVCu window frames using a WHS Halo profile
- ‘A’ rated double glazed units with energy efficient glass
- Lockable push button window handles
- Trickle vents and window restrictors.
- New composite front entrance door with a choice of 3 designs and 4 colours and multi-point locking system and security chain
- Chrome effect fittings to include door numbers and letter box
- New white PVCu rear entrance door with multi-point locking system
- Level access door thresholds to bungalows and ground floor flats
How will the work affect me?
There will be some inconvenience as replacing the windows and doors will involve access to all rooms at the property. Dust sheets will be used wherever access is required internally and the contractor will ensure the property is left clean and tidy at the end of each day. Please ensure you remove and safely store any breakables from the areas affected by the works.
You do not have to be at the property during the works although this is preferable.
You will receive at least five days’ notice prior to the works commencing. The works will take approximately two working days and the contractor will need access on consecutive days.
What happens when the works are complete?
A member of our Project Team will visit you to carry out a final inspection and should there be any outstanding issues, these will be identified and dealt with quickly. We will ask you to complete a customer satisfaction survey and this will help us monitor the service that we and the contractor have provided.
Our customer satisfaction levels are consistently high, which indicates that our residents are very pleased with the service and workmanship they receive during their new upgrade.
What happens to my old windows?
Your old windows will be recycled. The recycling programme turns old windows into new.
What background ventilation is available?
Your new windows will be fitted with trickle vents which allow a small amount of background ventilation. These should be left open particularly if you suffer with condensation. Additionally, the window will feature a locking window stay, this will allow you to open the window very slightly whilst keeping the handle in the locked position.
